October Fieldtrip to Hornelen Basin

Together with our sponsors Repsol Norge & Wellesley Petroleum from the PaBas project, we have visited the Hornelen Basin in western Norway to understand how an alluvial system that is detected on seismic data may look like in reality. In this photo at Haukåvatnet, we are standing on the Southern Fault, which is separating the Caledonian basement from the east-dipping Devonian sedimentary units. These units are interpreted as alluvial fans interfingering with axial fluvial deposits. We have discussed the nature of this major structural element and its relationship with the observed clastic units.
